Medical Microbiology is the basic science that deals with the identification and classification of microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites that cause infectious diseases and the determination of effective treatments against these agents.
The Department of Medical Microbiology at our hospital, with its modern laboratory infrastructure, plays an active role in both patient care and educational and research activities. Accurate diagnosis of the source of infection is critical to the patient's treatment process.
Culture and antibiogram tests (blood, urine, sputum, stool, throat, etc.)
Bacteriological, virological, mycological and parasitological diagnostic services
Viral tests (serology, PCR) such as COVID-19, influenza, HCV, HBV, HIV
Microscopic methods such as Gram staining, Ziehl-Neelsen, Giemsa
Antibiotic sensitivity tests
Isolation and identification tests
Surveillance and follow-up of hospital infections
Laboratory guidance and quality control practices
Tests are carried out in coordination with infectious diseases, intensive care and clinical units.
The Department of Medical Microbiology offers the following courses for medical, dental and health sciences students:
Introduction and classification of microorganisms
Laboratory techniques training
Molecular diagnosis of infectious agents
Case discussions and seminars
Scientific publication preparation and congress participation
offers.
Additionally, students are provided with thesis and project support in research laboratories.
As the Department of Medical Microbiology:
Determining the source of infections quickly and accurately,
Providing guidance on rational antibiotic use,
Prioritizing laboratory safety and quality,
Caring about scientific productivity and collaboration
We provide service with an approach.
Our aim is to guide both patients and clinical units in the fight against infections with accurate diagnosis and strong laboratory support.
