Rheumatology

General Description

Rheumatology is a subspecialty of internal medicine that diagnoses, treats and monitors autoimmune, inflammatory and degenerative diseases affecting the musculoskeletal system and connective tissue.

The Rheumatology Department at our hospital provides services with early diagnosis, regular follow-up, and individualized treatment approaches, particularly in the evaluation of patients presenting with symptoms such as joint pain, swelling, morning stiffness, and muscle weakness.


Services Provided

  • Inflammatory rheumatic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis

  • Connective tissue diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), scleroderma, Sjögren syndrome

  • Gout and crystal arthropathies

  • Behçet's disease, vasculitis and autoinflammatory syndromes

  • Soft tissue rheumatism (fibromyalgia, myositis, etc.)

  • Evaluation of rheumatological tests (ANA, RF, anti-CCP, etc.)

  • Management of biological agents and immunosuppressive therapy

  • Intra-articular injections and trigger point injections

Patients often require long-term follow-up; therefore, patient-physician communication, lifestyle adjustments, and patient education are of paramount importance.


Education and Academic Activities

Department of Rheumatology; for medical school students and internal medicine specialist students:

  • Differential diagnosis of rheumatological diseases

  • Joint examination and symptomatology training

  • Current treatment algorithms and medication management

  • Case presentations, scientific publications and seminar studies

  • Active participation in national rheumatology congresses
