Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University was founded in 1992 and commenced operations in the 1992-1993 academic year. Its Faculty of Medicine, one of the university's most important institutions in the field of health, was established on May 9, 1996, by a decision of the Council of Ministers.

In accordance with the protocol signed with the Ministry of Health on May 26, 1997, the faculty began its activities in this location, which was renovated from the former Health Vocational School and the former State Hospital buildings. This historic building, which witnessed the faculty's early years, served as the heart of education and healthcare services for a long time.

The faculty admitted its first students in the 1998-1999 academic year. However, due to the incomplete development of the educational infrastructure at that time, students completed their initial three years of basic medical education at Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine under a protocol approved by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).

With its educational infrastructure developing over time, the faculty began offering all its courses in-house to its students starting from the first year, beginning in the 2010-2011 academic year.

This building, another snapshot from the institution's past, is one of the historical structures where healthcare services were provided during that period; it was known as the KSÜ Hanefi Öksüz Heart Hospital.
