Definition

Werner syndrome is an autosomal recessive progeroid syndrome characterized by premature aging, cataracts, skin changes, and a predisposition to cancer.

Symptoms

  • Signs of premature aging
  • Cataracts at a young age
  • Scleroderma-like skin changes
  • Increased risk of cancer

Reasons

Mutation in the WRN gene.

Diagnosis

Clinical criteria, genetic testing.
