Vestibular Neuronitis

Definition

Vestibular neuronitis is a disease characterized by sudden onset of vertigo resulting from inflammation of the vestibular nerve.

Symptoms

  • Sudden onset of severe dizziness
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Loss of balance
  • Involuntary movement of the eyes

Reasons

Viral infection, autoimmune reaction.

Diagnosis

Clinical examination, head impulse testing, caloric testing.

Treatment

Vestibular suppressants, corticosteroids, rehabilitation.
