Definition

Ulcerative proctitis is an inflammatory disease of the rectum and is a form of ulcerative colitis that only affects the rectum.

Symptoms

  • Rectal bleeding
  • Increased frequency of defecation
  • Rectal pain
  • Mucous stools

Reasons

Autoimmune reaction, genetic factors.

Diagnosis

Colonoscopy, rectal biopsy.

Treatment

Topical 5-ASA, corticosteroids.
