Definition
A thyroid nodule is an abnormal grouping of cells that form within the thyroid gland. While most are benign, some can be cancerous.
Symptoms
- Usually asymptomatic
- Palpable mass in the neck
- Difficulty swallowing
- Hoarseness
Reasons
Iodine deficiency, genetics, radiation exposure.
Diagnosis
Thyroid ultrasound, fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB), thyroid scintigraphy.
Treatment
Follow-up, surgery, radiofrequency ablation.
