Definition

Tarsal tunnel syndrome is a condition characterized by pain and numbness in the foot due to compression of the posterior tibial nerve behind the medial malleolus.

Symptoms

  • Burning in the soles of the feet
  • Numbness
  • Pain
  • Complaints increasing at night

Reasons

Trauma, varicose veins, tenosynovitis.

Diagnosis

EMG, physical examination.

Treatment

Anti-inflammatory drugs, surgery.
