Definition

Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by facial redness, red bumps and dilated blood vessels.

Symptoms

  • Redness on the cheeks, nose, and forehead
  • Small red blisters
  • Burning and redness in the eyes
  • Swelling and thickening of the nose (rhinophyma)

Reasons

Genetic predisposition, vascular sensitivity, Demodex mites, sun damage.

Diagnosis

Clinical examination, skin biopsy.

Treatment

Topical metronidazole, azelaic acid, oral antibiotics, laser therapy.
