Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type 2 (MEN2)

Definition

Multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2 (MEN2) is an autosomal dominant syndrome characterized by medullary thyroid cancer, pheochromocytoma, and hyperparathyroidism.

Symptoms

  • Medüller tiroid karsinomu (%100)
  • Feokromositoma (%50)
  • Hiperparatiroidi (%20-30)
  • Mucosal neuromas in MEN2B

Reasons

Activating mutation in the RET proto-oncogene.

Diagnosis

Genetic testing, calcitonin, catecholamine screening.

Treatment

Prophylactic thyroidectomy, pheochromocytoma surgery.
