Definition

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a condition characterized by numbness and pain in the hand due to compression of the median nerve in the carpal tunnel.

Symptoms

  • Numbness in the hand
  • Pain that wakes you up at night
  • Weakness in the thumb muscles
  • Tinel and Phalen symptoms

Reasons

Repetitive wrist movements, obesity.

Diagnosis

EMG, physical examination.

Treatment

Wrist splint, corticosteroid injection, surgery.
