Definition

Hemifacial spasm is a movement disorder characterized by involuntary, intermittent contractions of the muscles on one side of the face.

Symptoms

  • Eyelid twitching
  • Muscle contractions around the cheeks and mouth.
  • Involuntary facial movements
  • Continuing in sleep

Reasons

Facial nerve compression.

Diagnosis

Clinical examination, MRI.

Treatment

Botulinum toxin, surgery.
