Gastrinoma (Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome)

Definition

A gastrinoma is a tumor originating in the pancreas or duodenum that secretes excessive gastrin. It causes Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

Symptoms

  • Intractable peptic ulcers
  • Diarrhea
  • Stomach ache
  • Reflux

Reasons

Sporadic or part of MEN1 syndrome.

Diagnosis

High serum gastrin level, secretin stimulation test, imaging.

Treatment

Proton pump inhibitors, surgery.
