Definition

Retinal detachment is the separation of the retina from the tissue beneath it.

Symptoms

  • Flashes of light
  • Floaters
  • Curtain falling in the visual field
  • Sudden vision loss

Reasons

Eye trauma, high myopia, diabetes, aging.

Diagnosis

Fundus examination, ultrasound, OCT.

Treatment

Emergency surgery, laser photocoagulation, vitrectomy.
