Definition

Bell's palsy is the sudden paralysis of the facial nerve (7th cranial nerve).

Symptoms

  • Sagging on one side of the face
  • Inability to close the eyes
  • Slipping in the mouth
  • Taste disorder

Reasons

Viral infection, autoimmune reaction, nerve edema.

Diagnosis

Clinical examination, EMG, imaging.

Treatment

Corticosteroids, antiviral medications, physical therapy.
