Definition

Acute pyelonephritis is a bacterial infection of the renal parenchyma.

Symptoms

  • High fever
  • flank pain
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Burning sensation during urination

Reasons

Bacterial infection, usually E. coli.

Diagnosis

Urinalysis, urine culture, ultrasound.

Treatment

Antibiotics, fluid therapy, painkillers.
